Abstract

Introduction: The concept of ‘biologic endoscopy’ is nothing new under the sun of the upper
aerodigestive tract (UADT) evaluation: the term simply represents a common umbrella under
which different endoscopic techniques (some developed more than 40 years ago) can be
collected. Different from standard white light endoscopy, which simply observes the
macroscopic appearance of mucosal lesions, biologic endoscopy techniques can provide
deeper insight into the behavior of a target lesion or allow visualization of lesions that are not
otherwise visible.
Aim of the work: The aim of this study is to review the literature to evaluate the role of
biologic endoscopies in the diagnosis of different ENT diseases; and evaluation of its
advantages and disadvantages.
